FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is Independent College Baseball?

Post high school graduate baseball for players in their first two years out of high school.

  • Why is it called Independent?

Players can attend any area college, technical school, or online program.  We are not affiliated with any organization that governs college baseball. However, we do intend to schedule games against sanctioned college teams.

  • Why is Independent College Baseball needed?

The Georgia JUCO baseball market is extremely underserved.  In comparing Georgia to other Southeastern states (Alabama / Florida / Mississippi / North Carolina / South Carolina / Tennessee), based upon population and high schools, it shows that Georgia could justify another 11 JUCO baseball programs if the same methodology was used.

  • Why choose Independent College Baseball?

Most of the reasons will fall into just a few major categories – such as Offers, Finances, or Personal.

In the Offers category, here are a few of the common reasons for choosing ICB.

    • I did not get the offer I wanted or expected from a particular school or division.
    • I want to play at a 4-year school but the statistics show I will not make the team or get enough playing time if I do.
    • The college coach offered me a preferred walk-on spot in the fall, but I know if they do not offer money, they do not see me as a true prospect and will give scholarship players more opportunities.

Under the Finances category, we often hear these comments favoring ICB.

    • I cannot afford to go off to school.  I need to stay close to home to afford it.
    • I need real money now, as in a well-paying job upon high school graduation.
    • I do not want student loans for tens of thousands when I graduate college.
    • I will not have time for a job while playing baseball at a traditional college.
    • My family cannot support me financially through college.
    • I want a viable trade skill in two years.

Lastly, the Personal category is likely the most determining category of all.  These factors seem to be true motivators of driven athletes who know what they want and will find a way.

    • My body needs a year or two of dedicated development to compete with older college players.
    • I do not want to waste a year of NCAA eligibility while knowing I will not get to play much, if any.
    • The everyday rigors of traditional college baseball will not allow me to do what I need to do.
    • I want a year of Tread Athletics or T2 Performance training to gain 20 lbs. of lean muscle mass.
    • I need to stay close to home.
    • I know I want a specific skill – nursing, welding, mechanic, insurance, or real estate license, etc.
    • I want an undergraduate degree to prepare me for professional degree – MD, Pharm D, JD, DMD, etc. and I need a program that allows me to successfully handle the academic schedule.
    • I want a program that has my best interest in mind.

And the #1 reason to choose Independent College Baseball is – I just like the ICB model better.
